Teaching Partnerships

The Howard University NASA University Research Center Beltsville Center for Climate System Observation, provides a Research Fellowship to one high school teacher every summer to work at the Beltsville lab. BCCSO utilizes its partnership with the NSFG K-12 program to find and recruit teachers who are interested and suited for these fellowships.

In our program, the teacher has the opportunity to work with faculty, post doctoral associates, and graduate students to learn basic concepts in specific areas of climate and weather. The teacher learns about key science questions and the methods and tools (instruments) that are in use to address those questions.  From this rich educational experience, the teacher develops custom-designed exercises and classroom material based on BCCSO and NASA Earth Sciences related science.  Moreover, the Fellowship provides the teacher with the knowledge to help prepare students for competitive Science Fairs within their schools

Teaching Partnerships

Ultimately, our goal is to impact science content and curriculum development.   This is an ambitious goal, given the constraints on pre-college curriculum, but, nevertheless, a goal we strive to reach with the support of NASA.
